I liked that idea and still dont have issue with it but coming from one of Capuano's biggest critics he is actually making sound decisions the last eight games (finally). It's nice to have a balanced attack. Why fix something thats not broke? Strome is still putting up points and tavares will find his legs eventually. With the fourth line finally starting to find their legs we can roll four lines. |

Nice write up but with all due respect.... even a regulation win by the isles keeps the Pens in first place based on games played and ROW.
It's honestly one of the reasons I hate the ROW tie breaker.... Isles win a hard fought game in the shootout against a division rival and it's actually it's long term punishment cause now you have to work harder to overcome the tie breaker..... stupid stupid system. |

it honestly doesn't really matter, but if the Isles win in regulation would the pens be ahead because they're tied in points with one less game? Or are the Isles ahead because they have same amount of points, but have 14 wins, while the pens only got 13 (assuming regulation win tonight)? |

Damn impressed with the Islanders this year and as an organization. They had rough luck, but it wasn't just getting Tavares: they're starting to draft intelligently, develop intelligently, and trade semi-intelligently (not sure about that Vanek deal last year!, but Boychuk/Leddy made up for it!)
Hope you guys go far. |

Sadly, there's not much of that. You're right about the ROW tie breaker on all counts. Strangely, the media doesn't even indicate the ROWs as the season progresses. Newsday (the Long Island daily), for example, will list the NHL standings with Wins, Losses, OT (and SO) losses, Points, and Goals for and against. No mention of ROWs, even though they are the first tie breaker.

I would like the NHL to go to a 3 point system, where each game is worth 3 points. 3 if you win out right, 2 for winning in OT or shoot out. I think it is inherently unfair that some games generate 3 points, and out right wins worth 2. This would stop teams from hanging on for the 1 point and trying to get one more in OT. |
